.....surgery...
So about 2 years ago, I went to my pcp and did my anual exam. She found a big lump in my lower abdomen. She thought I might be pregnant. We did urine n blood tests. The results were negative. She then told me about the possibility of the lump being a fibroid. A fibroid is basically a tumor, usually non cancerous and grows in your uterus areas. I did ultrasounds and X rays and found out this thing is huge! I went to an experienced dr who commonly deals with fibroids. He is a very good dr. He made me understand what a fibroid is, where it's growing, and how to deal with it. There were a few options on treatment. I decided to do 2 rounds of a 3 month cycle of Lupron shots. So in April 2012, I started my 1st shot. The Lupron shots put me in a temporary menopause state. The fibroid feeds off the estrogen in my body, so if im in menopause, my estrogen is low and it slows the growth of the tumor. After the 6 months were done, my dr wanted to wait till January 2013 to do surgery to remove the tumor. He told me if I don't remove it, it will continue to grow. He said it was the size of a babies head. But that it wasn't the largest one he has seen. Phew....it was scary dealing with this. I had never had surgery and I was also worried about how much it would cost. But I also knew I need to remove this from my body no matter what.
On Friday, January 25, 2013 I had my surgery. The surgery itself was only about 1 hour. I was so knocked out, I didn't wake up till almost 3 hours later. The first couple days of recovery was a bit tough. You don't appreciate the simple idea of being able to use your abdominal muscles. My recovery ended up being great. The scar was very minimal and it healed nicely. With my husband, family and friends by my side I was able to get through this difficult time.
And now for bigger and better things to come....
